Mustang volleyball dominates and defends home court to win 38th annual Eldon Tournament

The Eldon volleyball team celebrates its championship run in the 38th annual Eldon Tournament on Saturday, October 10, in Eldon. The Mustangs swept all six of their opponents in two sets.

There was no real sense of drama or tension on the court for the home team on Saturday.

Eldon hosted the 38th annual Eldon Tournament and swept the competition convincingly, winning all six games in two sets to keep the trophy right at home. Caroline Beckmann was named Tournament MVP and Addie Davis was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts as the program celebrated its second tournament title of the season.

The Mustangs started their day with Calvary Lutheran and defeated the Lions (25-8, 25-21). Beckmann led the attack with seven kills while Cassidy Prater, Jade Hall, Emily Davis and Haley Henderson each contributed a pair of kills and 10 different Mustangs recorded at least one kill. Taylor Henderson and Addison Duncan each served up three aces while Jaci Mueller and Prater both served two and Addie fueled the attack with 11 assists. Haley led the defense with four digs while Beckmann finished with three and Hall led the effort above the net with two blocks.

Up next for Eldon was Capital City and the Mustangs came out on top (25-9, 25-18). Beckmann provided nine kills while Addie and Prater finished with three each. Tatum Frank and Haley contributed a trio of aces each and Addie put together 14 assists. Frank recorded eight digs while Beckmann added four and both Taylor and Hall had a block each.

Eldon went to battle against the Southeast Knights in the next round and defeated the club out of Kansas City (25-8, 25-14). Beckmann and Hall had a trio of kills each to lead the attack while Haley, Emily and Sydni Halderman finished with two kills each. Prater served four aces while Beckmann recorded three and both Duncan and Emily recorded two while Addie put together eight assists and Mueller finished with four. On the defensive end, Halderman provided the team’s only dig and block.

The Mustangs also took care of business against Fulton (25-10, 25-15). Taylor, Hall and Beckmann provided six kills each and Beckmann and Addie also had an ace each while Addie recorded nine assists. Beckmann led the defensive effort with six digs while the Hendersons added four each and five different Mustangs recorded one block.

Eldon met a Tri-County Conference foe in Boonville next and won the match (25-12, 25-11). Beckmann led the offensive charge with 15 kills while Haley smacked down four and Frank provided four aces as Beckmann finished with three. Addie finished with 19 assists in the effort as well. Haley led the defense with 14 digs while Beckmann added 10 and both Frank and Taylor recorded six each. Beckmann and Prater also had a block each.

Eldon completed the Saturday sweep to the title in the finale with Southern Boone (25-15, 25-21). Beckmann led the attack with 10 kills as Haley, Hall and Taylor added three each and Haley also served two aces while Addie provided 16 assists. Haley recorded 14 digs to slow down Southern Boone while Beckmann had six and both Addie and Frank had five each and Beckmann also had a pair of blocks while Prater, Hall and Addie finished with a block each.

Eldon (19-4-1, 5-2 TCC) has won eight straight and was scheduled to visit Tipton on Monday before visiting Warsaw on Thursday at 5 p.m.
