Camdenton and Osage cross country battle at Ha Ha Tonka

If there is nowhere to run, the course at Ha Ha Tonka is never a bad alternative.

After seeing two scheduled meets get cancelled, Camdenton decided to host its own meet at Collins Farm in the state park and welcomed School of the Osage along as well as the Indians saw one of their meets also get cancelled in this strange new era of COVID-19. Fittingly, Camdenton named the race the “Laker Last Minute Invite.”

Among the five schools in action, the Camdenton girls finished second with 51 points and Osage finished third with 56 points while Rolla captured the win with 35, respectively.

Camdenton’s Cambrie Kowal nearly won the race on her own course, finishing second overall with a time of 20:34 among 30 runners. She was just 35 seconds behind Rolla’s Izzy Frost who finished first. Alexis Stroup finished seventh with a time of 21:51, Madelyn Coffelt was eighth at 22:01, Kylie Doyle was 14th at 22:56, Ava Canales was 20th at 23:55 and McKenna Demark was 21st at 24:28.

Osage was paced by Sara Wolf who placed third with a time of 21:01. Bayley Johnson was right behind her in fourth at 21:09, Julia Bryant was 12th at 22:50, Abby Maschhoff was 13th at 22:56, Campbell Walters was 24th at 25:39, Grace Martin was 25th at 25:43 and Maya Miller was 26th at 26:12.

The Osage boys finished third as a team with 71 points behind Rolla (35) and Pleasant Hill (43) and Camdenton did not field enough runners for team competition.

Osage’s John Markovitz was out front for the Indians as he finished with the fastest time among his teammates in third place at 17:36 in the field of 35 runners. Jaysen Groll was 11th at 19:30, Dylan Barnett was 14th at 19:45, Caleb Klaus was 29th at 22:12 and Jaxsen Gamm was 30th at 22:56.

Camdenton’s Benjamin Hauck was the fastest Laker finishing seventh at 18:29 while Aidan Dowdney was 12th at 19:35 and Blake Roettgen was 13th at 19:43.

Both Camdenton and Osage will be racing at the Hermitage Invitational on Saturday.
