Four-star Class of 2022 QB Sam Horn commits to Mizzou
Missouri football secured one of the signature commitments of coach Eli Drinkwitz's tenure with the program thus far Sunday night.
Sam Horn, a four-star Class of 2022 quarterback from Suwanee, Georgia, verbally committed to the Tigers, vaulting Missouri's next recruiting class to No. 14 nationally and No. 4 in the Southeastern Conference, according to the 247 Sports Composite.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Horn is the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in his class and the No. 82 player in the nation for 2022.
Horn is the highest-rated out-of-state quarterback to ever commit to Missouri, topping James Franklin's No. 246 in the Class of 2010. Some of Horn's other offers include Florida State, Michigan State and Tennessee.
Horn is the fifth Class of 2022 commit Missouri has picked up, with a majority being ranked as four-star prospects, including SLUH safety Isaac Thompson and Parkway West wide receiver Ja'Marion Wayne.
Horn is the first MU commit in the class who is neither in-state or within close proximity of Missouri. Mekhi Miller, a wide receiver from Leawood, Kansas, committed to the Tigers in January, but resides in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Horn would be the highest-rated individual signee for Missouri since 2015, when Terry Beckner Jr. inked his name with MU. Beckner was the No. 13 player in his class. Horn is higher-rated than Drew Lock was coming out of high school — the Lee's Summit product clocked in at No. 98 in the country in 2015.
Horn would become the highest-rated quarterback Missouri has signed since Blaine Gabbert in 2008. Gabbert was No. 35 overall in his class.
In addition to being a quarterback, Horn drew attention from SEC schools as a right-handed pitcher. He stated in interviews before committing that playing both football and baseball in college was important to him.
After Horn tweeted his commitment, Drinkwitz tweeted an image of Maverick and Goose from the 1986 movie "Top Gun" and tagged Missouri head baseball coach Steve Bieser.
