Looking back at Zack ‘Buck’ Wheat

Lake Sun Leader

The Lake of the Ozarks attracted many individuals. One of them was Zack “Buck” Wheat. He began by playing neighborhood baseball. In 1918 he led the National League in batting. He played his last game in 1927. He is a member of Baseball’s Hall of Fame. When he passed he was the same height and weight that he was when he played in the “big league”. He made his home in the Sunrise Beach area.
