Trio from Climax Springs injured after vehicle strikes tree and catches fire
A trio from Climax Springs were injured Friday morning after their vehicle struck a tree and caught fire on Route J just a quarter of a mile north of Just My Road.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol report states that Aurora Mapes, 20, was driving southbound on Route J in a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road. Mapes overcorrected, traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree where the vehicle caught fire.
Mapes was seriously injured and transported to Lake Regional Hospital by Mercy EMS along with a 6-year-old and 4-year-old girl who were both reported to have minor injuries. The two unnamed juveniles were reported to be wearing safety devices and it is unknown if Mapes was wearing a safety device.
The Chrysler Town and Country was totaled and was towed from the scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted in its response by the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
