Camdenton R-III Superintendent Dr. Sean Kirksey presented a plaque of appreciation to graduating student advisor John Holt at the Monday, May 13 board of education meeting. “John asked great questions, had great insight on what is going on, and he was not afraid to say what we might need to do to get better,” Dr. Kirksey commended. “He is a go getter and I believe he will conquer the world. I am proud of John, and we are thankful and appreciative for everything he has done for the district.”
Graduation
In other board business, Dr. Kirksey discussed the 2024 graduation. He instructed the board that if it does not rain, the plan is to hold the 2024 graduation ceremonies at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 in Shore Stadium. “There is a high potential for rain,” Dr. Kirksey warned. “If it does rain, graduation will be held in the high school gym.” There is unlimited entry into graduation in Shore Stadium, but limited seating in the gym. Each senior will be allotted six tickets for seats in the gym. The ceremony will be broadcast on large screen television from the gym into the commons area and to the RC Worthens Auditorium. According to Dr. Kirksey, there are 900 seats in the theater and 450-500 in the commons area. The ceremony will also be live streamed and can be watched from home.
Travel expenses
The board approved recommended travel reimbursement guidelines. The guidelines are unchanged from last year. The district will pay for travel expenses for district employees who travel outside the district for training, professional development, attendance at district-related meetings or for other approved reasons related to their positions with the district.
The following are allowable expenses: the use of a staff member’s personal car at the rate of $.47 per mile. The miles to the listed destinations reflect one-way miles from the Camdenton campus. There will be times when the trip requires extra miles while in the destination city. Additional acceptable reimbursements include advanced purchased coach class air fare, hotel accommodations, taxi, bus, or other public transportation to and from the airport and hotel, airport parking, meals, and tips: $35.00 per day,
In other business, the board approved a new course request for a Digital Communications class in the Business Department. The course will earn.5 credits for students in grades 9 – 12.
School calendar
The board discussed school calendar items. An end of year celebration is scheduled with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and an assembly at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22. A Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) accountability meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 3 at the high school.
A special meeting of the BOE was scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 in the CHS Conference Room.
The board went into executive session with no decisions made. The Monday, June 10 BOE meeting agenda topics will include a school counseling report, an activities review, a food services report, a health services report, a school climate/discipline report, and board goals. A special board meeting is also scheduled at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25.
