Camdenton heads to district semifinals with win over Capital City

Returning district champion Camdenton has a date in the district semifinals.

The Lakers were the fourth seed in the opening round of the Class 4 District 10 Tournament at Capital City on Saturday and they took down their fifth-seeded hosts 72-61.

“It was a hard-fought game. Capital City played hard and had a kid who caused us fits on defense,” Camdenton coach Craig Campbell said. “It was a complete team effort to pull off the victory with multiple guys contributing in different areas.”

Camdenton’s Paxton DeLaurent, who last appeared in a game on February 4 and previously stated he likely did not expect to return from injury until a potential district semifinal game, returned in the fourth quarter to help push his team ahead in a tight game.

Joel Mason led Camdenton with 18 points, Brandon Pasley finished with 16, DeLaurent knocked down 13, Drake Miller also reached double figures with 10 and Tony Glynn knocked down seven.

Camdenton (5-21) will meet top seed Helias Catholic (18-6) in the semifinals at Capital City on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Osage was the third seed up against No. 6 Marshall in the opening round of the Class 4 District 10 Tournament on Saturday afternoon and the Indians saw their season end with a 42-35 defeat.
