Versailles, Eldon and Osage fall in first round of Tri-County Conference Tournament

Versailles falls to Boonville in opening round of Tri-County Conference Tournament

Versailles began its season against Boonville Monday night in the first round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament and the eighth-seeded Tigers fell to the top-seeded Pirates 81-18 on home floor.

"Boonville jumped on us with their press and we struggled and could not get much done," Versailles coach Tim Spiers said. "Our defensive intensity was lacking at times. We also struggled to make shots."

Versailles (0-1) will play fourth-seeded Hallsville in the consolation semifinals on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Eldon comes up short to California in Tri-County Conference Tournament

Eldon was the seventh seed in the opening round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament at Versailles Monday night where the Mustangs took on No. 2 California.

Eldon came away with a 56-34 loss at the hands of the Pintos.

Hayley Henderson led Eldon with 14 points and added five rebounds while Hayley Shinn provided eight points and Taylor Henderson contributed seven.

Eldon (1-1) will face No. 6 Osage in the consolation semifinals on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Osage falls to Blair Oaks in Tri-County Conference Tournament

Osage took on Blair Oaks in the opening round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament at Versailles Monday night and the No. 6 Indians fell to No. 3 Blair Oaks 57-44.

One tough stretch in the second quarter put Blair Oaks ahead 31-21 in what was a tightly-contested game every other step of the way.

"As will probably be the case most of the season, overall our team size is usually in the favor of our opponent and this was no exception. We knew we had to shoot better than in our opener and to the credit of the girls, they did," Osage coach Scott Rowland said. "The only real hiccup we had was the second quarter when we struggled to score.

"I was very pleased how the girls played against a quality opponent. Hopefully, we can continue to shoot even better as the season progresses. I thought our defense and rebounding was great for our size.

Osage was led by Liberty Gamm who put together a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Sara Wolf also had a double-double with 12 points and rebounds. Sydney Riley and Ella DeMott contributed six points each.

Osage (0-2) will face No. 7 Eldon in the consolation semifinals Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
