Macks Creek opens Wheatland Tournament with a loss

Macks Creek and Weaubleau engaged in a pitcher's duel on Monday night, with the Tigers coming away with a 1-0 win over the Pirates.

Weaubleau’s Cadan Kauffman and Treyton Foster both were hit by a pitch with one out to put runners on first and second and Cameron Ott put a ball into center that allowed Kauffman to race home on a fielder’s choice for the game’s only run of the evening. Macks Creek had two hits from Grant English on the night and five runners in scoring position, but ultimately left six stranded on base.

"This was a classic pitcher's duel where the team that scored first would probably win,” Macks Creek skipper Jason Trusty said. “We just happened to come out on the short end tonight."

Hunter Lane (1-1) worked the complete game in taking the loss. The right-hander allowed one run on three hits while striking out seven, walking one and hitting two batters.

Macks Creek (3-1) suffered its first defeat of the season and the Pirates were scheduled to continue pool play on Tuesday against Wheatland.
