Osage advances to Tri-County Tournament championship and Eldon and Versailles fall in consolation semifinals
Osage advances to Tri-County Tournament championship
School of the Osage went to battle with California in the Tri-County Conference Tournament at Southern Boone Wednesday night and the No. 4 Indians took down top-seeded California 58-54 to advance to the title game.
It was a rematch of last year's tournament championship and Osage did not disappoint this time around as the Indians avenged a 10-point loss from a season ago. California held a 33-25 lead at the break and led by as many as 12, but a strong second half gave the Indians the edge and it all started with defense.
"In the third quarter our girls did a very good job with the press and forced some turnovers," Osage coach Scott Rowland said. "All five starters scored in the quarter as we managed to take a 1-point lead into the fourth. We only made one field goal in the fourth, but managed to still hold on."
Sara Wolf paced Osage with 20 points and six rebounds. Payton Good added 11 points and nine rebounds, Carson Wood chipped in 11 points to go with six rebounds, five assists and four steals and both Kerrigan Gamm and Liberty Gamm knocked down eight points each.
"I thought a huge key for us was Payton on the glass. She got some big boards (rebounds) down the stretch for us," Rowland stated. "Sara hitting five 3-pointers was big as well. We need to continue to improve our free throw shooting percentage and we will get better at finishing games, but this was a great win over a high quality opponent. The girls are headed to their fourth straight conference championship game."
Osage (2-1) will take on No. 2 Blair Oaks in the championship game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Eldon falls to Hallsville in Tri-County Tournament
Eldon and Hallsville met at Southern Boone Wednesday night in the consolation semifinals of the Tri-County Conference Tournament and the No. 7 Mustangs came up short against No. 6 Hallsville 64-49.
Taylor Henderson led Eldon with 11 points while Haley Clifton added nine points and Camri Bond knocked down eight.
Eldon (0-3) will face No. 8 Versailles in the seventh place game on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Versailles toppled by Southern Boone in Tri-County Tournament
