Victoria Watson, Irelyn Meckley, Emily Willis and Victoria Turner will represent the Lakers among the best of Missouri

History was made for the Camdenton girls' swim team on Wednesday

The Lakers were swimming in their last regular season event of the year, looking to punch a ticket to state and the 200 Free Relay team managed to do just that as they qualified with a time of 1:51.26.

This is just the second year that the boys or girls programs have been in existence. The boys' produced their first state qualifier in Josef Bernabe last fall, but this is the first time in school history that a relay team will swim among the best the state of Missouri has to offer. The team consists of three freshmen in Victoria Watson, Irelyn Meckley and Emily Willis and a senior as well in Victoria Turner.

Not a bad way to start a high school career and not a bad way to end one either.

"I'm very excited for the girls," Camdenton coach Paige McCane said. "It was a time drop of 2.42 seconds from our meet last Saturday. We are currently ranked 27th in that event."

Camdenton will compete at the state prelims on February 15 in St. Peters at the City of St. Peters Rec-Plex, hoping to earn a spot in the finals the following day. The doors will open at 8:30 a.m., for spectators and the competition will get underway at 12:30 p.m.
