Versailles finishes fourth at Clinton Tournament
Versailles took on host Clinton for third place on Saturday and the Tigers came up short in a 78-55 defeat.
Versailles trailed by just six points after the first quarter, but the hosts broke the game wide open in the second, outscoring the Tigers 27-14 to take a 44-25 halftime lead.
Coby Williams paced the Tigers with 21 points, Wyatt Espinosa added 14 and Jonathon Geier put up seven.
Versailles falls to 9-9 and will be back on the court Tuesday night in a trip to St. Paul Lutheran in Concordia.
Osage comes up short against Smith-Cotton in Eldon Tournament
Osage met Smith-Cotton of Sedalia to wrap up Eldon Tournament play on Saturday and the Indians came up just short in a 53-47 loss to the Tigers.
The Indians led 22-19 at halftime, but the opponents went on a 15-0 run in the third quarter and Osage could not quite recover.
Osage’s Keyton Knamiller scored 12 of his team-leading 15 points in the fourth quarter while Zach Wheeler added 13 points for the Indians. Osage shot just 38 percent as a team from the free throw line, but still had a chance to come out on top down the stretch.
“We spent a lot of energy fighting back into the game and just ran out of time and few shots short,” Osage coach Kevin Schnicker said. “I was proud of how we fought in a very physical contest that could have went either way with a shot, free throw, or a call going the other way down the stretch. We hope to learn from this experience to make us better while we look to make a conference and district run.”
Osage falls to 9-9 and the Indians will visit Skyline on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Eldon drops game to Lebanon
Eldon took on Lebanon in the final game of the Eldon Tournament on Saturday and the Mustangs fell to the Yellowjackets 78-35.
Elijah Rivera paced Eldon with 12 points, Logan Hall added nine and Clayton Moore posted six respectively.
Eldon (0-18) will visit Warsaw on Friday at 5 p.m.
