Eldon opened up its season against Salem in the Rolla Shootout on Saturday and day went well for the Mustangs with a 39-29 win.

"Overall, I'm pleased with our first performance," Eldon coach Ashley Agee said. "We still have a lot of things to work on, which is expected, but the girls executed our game plan to a "T."

Eldon's Macie Halderman got off to a great start in her final season with the Mustangs as she recorded a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds to go with five steals. Fellow senior Grace Baucom also had a strong start with 14 rebounds and five steals of her own.

"Defense was our strong point of the game, which is one of our main focuses on the year. Offensively, we did have an off game I believe partly due to jitters having young players and it being our first game," Agee noted. "We know we will go through periods of time during games without scoring. Therefore, we have to create turnovers and not allow second chance points. Great start, but now we need to continue to build."

Eldon (1-0) will have some time to sharpen things up the rest of the week before the Mustangs begin their first tournament of the season at Marshall on Monday.
