E. Marie Thompson, 87, of Camdenton, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach, Missouri, due to complications from heart surgery and COVID.
Marie was born in Perryville, Missouri to Mabel (Henderson) and Elliott Nelson on October 24, 1932. She graduated from Soldan-Blewett High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Marie was married to Robert Rautenstrauch of St. Louis from June 4, 1955 until his death in November of 1969. She married Jerry Thompson on December 26, 1976 and moved to the lake area in 1977.
Marie worked as a clerk for Sears, Roebuck and Co. while living in St. Louis and for the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach until her retirement in 1995. She was always a member of the United Methodist Church and had been a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, a church board member, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She often volunteered at the Camdenton Senior Center. Marie enjoyed time with her family, especially her beloved husband, Jerry. She loved playing games, watching sports, and she always rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers and their wives and her four sisters and their husbands, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter Carol Kunce (Kevin) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; son Dr. Kurt Rautenstrauch (Mary) of Las Vegas, Nevada; four stepdaughters all from St. Louis, Missouri, Carol Johnson (Cliff); Marlene Murphy; Diane Witte (Greg); and Sandy Thompson; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 1 pm at Harper Chapel United Methodist Church in Osage Beach, Missouri. Memorial Donations may be made to Harper Chapel United Methodist Church. Private interment in St. Louis, Missouri.
