Margaret Pont was born in Flint, Michigan on March 7, 1927 to Jane Paterson Hamilton & Robert Dalrymple Pont, the younger of two girls. Her sister, Betty Kemp Dryer, as well as, her husband, Gilbert Young of Osage Beach, precede her in death. Margaret passed away in her sleep August 31 at Legacy, on the Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield, Indiana.
Margaret is survived by Betty’s three children, David and James Dryer and Karen Welsh and great nieces and nephew and their families. She is also survived by her cousin, Rita Criggie of Scotland. She believed all people were to be shown the same respect, a reflection of her Scottish upbringing. Karen Criggie spoke of Margaret, “…such a wonderful person. Vivacious, down to earth and beautiful inside and out. She laughed easily, was very friendly, and of course, she had a keen intelligence.”
Margaret moved to Kansas City and later Osage Beach. Creative and independent, she delved into entrepreneurial endeavors, yet later made a career at the IRS. Her drive, as well as, math, legal and listening skills led her to lead her own section.
Gilbert and Margaret were married late in 1989. They thoroughly enjoyed their friends here in Osage Beach and those around the lake. They enjoyed the Elks Club where they could often be found. She was active in other clubs and volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce. She had a love of cars. Was this related to her father’s career at Chevrolet?! She touched many people; she will be missed by us all.
