Peggy Helen (Cravens) Lippitt was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on March 8, 1935, to Edward Pittman "Pat" Cravens and Vinnie Ream (Stout) Cravens. She passed away on December 7, 2022, at her home in Mountain View, Missouri, with her daughters by her side.
Peggy had a joy for living and a zest for Christ. She began teaching Sunday School as a teenager, and her love for teaching and storytelling carried her throughout her life. She enjoyed sharing God's work in her life, especially if those stories involved answered prayers. Peggy loved her family and traveling with them. Music was also a special part of her life, whether it was singing in a school choir, a church choir or even directing a church choir; she loved music. Peggy had a soul ignited by the flow of music, and she shared her talents with whoever would listen. Encouraging her children with music was part of living in our home, and we all took piano lessons, with her being our first teacher. Other instruments were encouraged as well, with choirs and singing. Our home was always flowing with music. With music as part of the arts, she engaged in painting, especially tole and oil painting. She filled our home with wonderful works of art. She passed on the love of the Arts to her children and grandchildren. Peggy believed that everything in her life was good and she was always happy. To know Peggy was to love her, and she was always fit as a fiddle, but twice as stringy.
The second of four children, Peggy received her education, graduating in 1953 from Enid High School. She was taking college classes at Phillips University when she met and later married Newton Isaiah Lippitt on June 3, 1956. Newton was a teacher, and she traveled with him to work in Montana and Nebraska. To their union was born Carl Edward Lippitt, Sheryl Rose (Lippitt) Sandhaus, and Patricia "Pati" Ladean (Lippitt) Sandhaus. Newton became an air traffic controller, and the family moved with him to Missouri: Kansas City, Springfield, and Rolla. Peggy and Newton later retired at Lake of the Ozarks. She was an office manager at several State Farm Insurance Offices.
