The popular Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is still six months away, but plans continue to develop including changes to the no-wake zone.
The Shootout will be Aug. 26 and 27 and wraps up several weeks of activities designed to raise funds for Lake-area charities and emergency response agencies. The actual race area is near Captain Ron’s at the 34.5-mile marker.
The no-wake zone on Saturday of the two-day race in recent years has been between 1 and 7 p.m. between the 21-mile marker and the 31.5-mile marker. This year, the Water Patrol has agreed to shorten that window to 3-7 p.m. in that area.
Shootout officials say they hope this allows boaters to come to the Shootout later with more ease and leave earlier if they want to without harm to docks in that area.
The no-wake area between the 31.5-mile marker and the 36-mile marker will remain the same from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days.
