December promises a lot of Christmas celebrations and events and Christmas on the Square in Camdenton is one of the highlights of the season.
It all begins Friday night (Dec. 2) with a tree lighting ceremony, refreshments, a performance by the Bell Choir and a Christmas Market. That all takes place on the Camden County Courthouse lawn from 5-7 p.m.
The Camdenton Chamber of Commerce hosts the event every year.
Activities pick up again about 10:30 a.m. Saturday with games and prizes, a petting zoo, music, crafts, giveaways, cookie decorating, hot dogs and hot chocolate. Santa is scheduled to arrive about 11:30 a.m. Those activities wrap up about 1 p.m.
There’s also a Ginger Bread House Challenge with the houses on display at Christmas on the Square for judging. They will then be on display through Dec. 17 at OakStar Bank, 117 N. Business Route 5 in Camdenton.
The Chamber is also sponsoring a Can Do Challenge and invites area residents to bring canned goods to help stock the Lamb House for those in needs.
There are three categories for the challenge — Business, Church and Group/Organization. The top collector in each of the categories will not only win bragging rights but also a traveling trophy.
