Robert “Bob” G. Thuresson, age 80, of Camdenton, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2020, at the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.
Robert “Bob” G. Thuresson, age 80, of Camdenton, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2020, at the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born December 8, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of the late Ralph Deo and Melba (Nye) Thuresson. After the unexpected passing of his father when Bob was only three, he was blessed to have his beloved step-father, William “Bill” Geist, come into his life and he cherished this relationship.
On May 27, 1979, in Farmington, New Mexico, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Mary (Clark) Thuresson. They spent 41 years together creating a life that took them to many places and adventures.
Bob was a United States veteran having served in Vietnam. He was proud to serve his country and had a passion to continue to serve and support his fellow veterans. His many acts of kindness included providing Christmas baskets each year to veterans and grilling hamburgers and hosting fish fry’s at the Missouri Veterans Homes in Warrensburg and St. James.
Bob worked in construction specializing in industrial infrastructure for over 50 years. His career took him from the Canadian Border to the deserts of the southwest. He rose to the level of Project Manager but never forgot his roots and was often in the field getting his hands dirty with his team. He was recognized for his accomplishments many times including being the recipient of the “Best of the Best” award while he worked with Sundt Companies Corp.
He was a member of the West Lake Christian Church in Laurie, the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach, MO and a life member of Fraternal Order of Elk, St. Albans, Vermont and an associate member at the local 2705 Lodge in Laurie, MO.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his children, Robert B. Thuresson of Payson, Arizona and Theresa Fortner and husband Mark Gilbert of Colchester, Vermont; three grandchildren, Patrick Fortner, Shannen Fortner and Jenna Dawn Bates; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Deloris “Dee” Thuresson of Tucson, Arizona; several nieces, nephews and cousins including Dori Thomsson, of Payson, Arizona and Rob and Vicki Geist of Gravois Mills, MO. He is also survived by many friends that were like family to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald and his brothers, Donald, Charles and Leonard Thuresson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the care Bob received at Lake Regional Hospital, especially the staff in the progressive care and intensive care including Drs. Canver and Krishnan.
A celebration of Bob’s life and Elk’s service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 8th, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel. Immediately following the service, a light lunch will be served at the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie followed by a celebration of life. Graveside services and inurnment with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9th, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. The cemetery is requiring those attending to social distance and wear masks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Central Missouri Honor Flight, the Missouri State Veterans Home in Warrensburg or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
