Robert (Bob) Owen Link Sr., age 75, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2020 at home surrounded by family.
Robert (Bob) Owen Link Sr., age 75, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2020 at home surrounded by family. Often known by his friends and family as “Slugger”, Bob was born in Madison Wisconsin on May 1, 1944 to Patricia and William Link. He was raised by his mother and stepfather Theodore Petchell in Lake Ozark, MO and then later in IL and FL.
He met the love of his life Sharon Kay Herrick at Arrowhead Lodge and they married on July 18, 1965 in Unionville, MO. They had two children Robert Owen, Jr and Cari Lynn. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1965. We he completed his time in the Air Force, he pursued his BS in Finance at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL. The couple moved to Peoria, IL and Bob worked for Caterpillar Tractor as comptroller. Bob and family then moved back to Lake of the Ozarks where he worked for the Lodge of the Four Seasons and later at Tan-Tar-A as their comptroller. The family moved all over with Marriott hotels meeting lots of lifelong friends along the way. After leaving Marriott in 1985, the Links moved to Ft Worth, TX and Bob went to work as the comptroller over the Worthington Hotel and many other of the Bass Brothers endeavors. In 1993, he and Sharon purchased Kirkwood Lodge at the Lake of the Ozarks. During this time, they learned to love square dancing.
They sold Kirkwood Lodge in 2000 and moved back to Texas where Sharon finished her teaching career. Once Sharon retired, they once again moved back to their true home of Lake of the Ozarks. In 2015, Bob and Sharon moved back to Mansfield, Texas to be closer to their family. Bob was always involved in tennis and learned to love Pickle-ball as he got a little older. Some of Bob’s favorite things in life were to cook for friends and family, read endless amounts of books, play cards and games, pickle-ball and to travel all over the world.
Bob is survived by his wife Sharon and his children: Rob & Katy Link of Aledo, TX, Cari & Sean Dunnagan of Mansfield, TX, Grandchildren: Holland & Jacob Link, Abigail Wollman and Alexis, Kelsey and Cooper Dunnagan.
He is also survived by his sister Patricia Crockett of Eldon, MO and brother and wife Micheal and Terry Petchell of Eldon, MO, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Theodore “Teddy” Petchell.
The family will have a memorial service celebrating his life this Friday, June 19 at 11:00 am at Lake Ozark Christian Church.
