Two Miller County passengers were seriously injured Wednesday morning after their vehicle went airborne and crashed into a utility pole.

Chase R. Derboven, 19, was driving his 2005 Ford Focus on Horseshoe Bend Parkway around midnight with Samuel S. Huff, 18, in the passenger seat. Derboven attempted to pass another vehicle and lost control. The Focus travelled off the left side of the road and went airborne. After crashing into the ground, the vehicle went airborne again and struck a utility pole, ejecting both occupants from the car.

Both passengers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a safety device.
