A partnership between Lake Bloomers Garden Club, FGCM member and Indian Rock Golf Course in Laurie MO has proved the old adage that “Bluebirds love cemeteries and golf courses”. With the help of golf course General Manager, Chris and Lake Bloomers Bird and Conservation Committee nine nesting boxes were installed for a new bluebird trail. The Bluebird Society, with help from Ron Darling contributed supplies for the trail.

The golf course has everything our bird friends need: food, water and natural cover. The garden club has two other bluebird trails located in the Laurie area but the golf course has been the most exciting and successful adventure. Conservation is one of Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri objectives to protect and nurture habitat for wildlife.

A monitoring team visits the boxes on a two week rotation using golf carts provided by the golf course. They have documented 79 hatched and fledged young bluebirds for the first season in 2019. The activity created by the club members on the golf course on this routine schedule has gotten the interest of the golfers.
