A high speed pursuit through Camden and Miller Counties ended as the driver sped off a cliff near El Terra Road.

Darrell W. Matlock, 33, from Warrenton, was driving his 2016 Ford F250 Tuesday afternoon when a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer observed the vehicle traveling westbound on US 54 going 90 MPH. The pickup passed the officer and was identified as a vehicle that was stolen from Hazelwood, MO. The officer activated his emergency lights and pursued the vehicle.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop with Matlock, but he fled off at a high rate of speed. Matlock would eventually crash in Camden County, where he was seen traveling off the right side of the roadway and over a rock cliff. The vehicle struck the ground and overturned. The Ford was totaled in the process and Matlock received moderate injuries. He was wearing a safety device.

Matlock admitted to being the only person inside the vehicle during the pursuit. A computer check confirmed that this vehicle was stolen from Bommarito Ford on Jan 17. Matlock took the vehicle for a test drive and never returned.

Matlock is being charged with tampering with a motor vehicle to the first degree and is being held in Miller County.
