The holiday season at Lake of the Ozarks is a time of giving! Many organizations have events and programs to help see that all children receive gifts at Christmas time. lt brings the children great joy to receive the awesome gifts they receive from family and friends, or other agencies that step up to help. The children experience great joy in receiving the gifts.

On December 14 West Lake Christian Church in Laurie hosted its annual Christmas Workshop. Shopping assistants help each child select a free present for their mom and one for their dad (or alternative care providers) They wrap and label their gifts. What is in the packages is their secret til the parents open them at Christmas. Since July, WLCC members have been donating new gifts appropriate for moms and dads so the children have a great variety of choices.

Pastor Kelly Caldwell says, "Children are generally on the receiving end of Christmas gifts. This event provides an opportunity for children to experience the joy of GIVING and to remember Christmas is about celebrating the birthday of Jesus." An extensive display of nativities from around the world is available for all to see.

A free biscuits and gravy breakfast, with juice and cereal available was served to any in the community who came. Many who come for breakfast stayed to visit for the morning.

Several tables of crafters then helped children make angels, nativities, cards and ornaments to take home. Each child received a book telling the story of the first Christmas and how God gave the gift of His Son to the world and a manager they could assemble at home for their on tree. This event is held at West Lake Christian Church annually on the 2nd Saturday in December from 9 to noon. This was the 5th year for the event.
