Hubert Lyle Powell, mostly known as Hugh, son of Aaron and Mildred Powell was born March 15, 1931.

Hubert Lyle Powell, mostly known as Hugh, son of Aaron and Mildred Powell was born March 15, 1931. He was born on a farm east of Linneus, Missouri. The farm had a landmark, “A Round Barn”. He departed this life on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the age of 88.

On June 25, 1953, he married Dorothy Ila Powell (no relation). They shared 66 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was raised by his grandparents Herman & Margaret Powell and Mont & Allie Burris. He also received love and guidance from his Uncle Claude Powell.

He is survived by wife Dorothy, children Mike & Denise Powell and Susan (Powell) & Kent Kuss, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Hugh was raised in Linneus, Missouri on adjacent farms where he attended school, graduating in 1948. Hugh joined the United States Army Air Corps (subsequently) United States Air Force. He served in many locations around the world for 22 years. At that time he left the Armed Forces and joined Hallmark Cards, Inc., headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. He retired from Hallmark Cards in June of 1988, and took up residence on The Lake of the Ozarks. During the years before his ultimate retirement he served as Alderman for the town of Raytown, Missouri. During the move to the lake home he was active in the civic organization “The Elks”. He and Dorothy continued to travel extensively until health issues affecting both of them in later years. He spent the remainder of life in their lakefront home admiring the view.

He left this earth having helped all he loved grow to their potential.

There will be a casual reception for family and friends to celebrate and share the joy of knowing Hugh.

The celebration of Hugh’s Life will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Raintree Lake Duck Pond Activity Center, 111 SW Cole Younger Drive, Lee's Summit, MO 64082
