Bluff home built to enjoy sunsets and wildlife.

Al and Cindy Mohling were planning on retiring in the Lake Okoboji area of Northwest Iowa. They had purchased a small cabin there in 2013 but needed something larger if they intended to live there full time. Their daughter Amber, who lives in the Kansas City area, had suggested they look into Lake of the Ozarks since she had visited the area many times with family.
For about a year, Al and Cindy toured homes in both locations but it wasn’t until they stumbled across some bluff lots down Lake Road 5-58 that they knew this is where their new home would be.
“The lots convinced us that Lake of the Ozarks was the right choice for us,” Al said.
At that time the bluff was covered with trees so it was difficult to see the Lake but they loved the large double lot, the beautiful view and the peacefulness of the area. They were also fond of the eagles that fished from trees on their property.
Once the lots were purchased, Al and Cindy came down from their home in Cedar Falls, Iowa for a few days each month to clear out small trees and brush, and work on the house plans with architect Don Campbell. Starting with a rough sketch of the house they wanted, it took several attempts to fine-tune the plan before building began. They were impressed with the quality and mission-style doors and trim found in a home built by Matt Ancell, owner of Ancell Construction, so they decided to hire him on as the contractor.
The couple has been methodical about the type of details put into the home. For the past year and a half they have been working full-time to incorporate the look they want and were hands-on with the project.
Thanks to a rainy spring and summer, completing the landscaping has been delayed but now that the house is almost finished, Al and Cindy say they are looking forward to enjoying their new home with family and friends.
