The Bootyque is also a shop that sells donated clothes, shoes, strollers, bassinets and other baby items. All the money raised from the shop goes towards diapers.
Lake area resident Jess Rozier knows the need for diapers. She said, “One in three families choose between buying food and buying diapers in our area. There’s no government assistance; WIC, food stamps, anything like that does not provide diaper help.”
Not being able to afford diapers can cause a domino effect which sometimes leads to other symptoms. Rozier said, “If children do not have diapers, they cannot go to daycare. If they cannot go to daycare, the parents cannot go to work and the cycle never ends. Yale did a study on maternal depression linked to the diaper need. Not being able to provide a basic need for your child is humiliating and devastating. It can lead to severe depression. It can lead to financial stress in the household. We know that financial stress is a huge trigger in physical and substance abuse.”
That’s why she is here. Rozier started Bottom Dollar Bootyque, a diaper distributor for the area. Rozier said, “The pregnancy help center just gives out diapers when they can. They don’t have a solid stream of diapers coming in and that’s where we come in. We can give them that solid stream and they can continue to provide the case management that they are already doing.”
The Bootyque is also a shop that sells donated clothes, shoes, strollers, bassinets and other baby items. All the money raised from the shop goes towards diapers. Rozier said, “It [the shop] has far surpassed our expectations, so it should be able to fund our diaper bank. All the proceeds from the shop get us diapers.”
