The two candidates running for the open seat in the district answered some questions about a new Fire Chief and more.

1. What would you look for in a new Chief? (Selection process will be completed after election)

A Fire Chief that lives within the Sunrise Beach Fire District and that  is active in the district that he serves.

He also must have strong  people, operational, administrative and leadership skills.

2. Are you interested in continuing the progress that has been made toward a professional fire district manned by professional firefighters?

Of course!! Why would we want anything less?

3. Do you support efforts to increase manpower and maintain a program for ongoing replacement of equipment to improve the level of service?

As the Sunrise Beach Fire District opens more stations for improved  response times, the increase in manpower would become imperative to  properly staff the stations on a 24/7 schedule. When I was the Administrative Assistant there was a program in place for  the replacement of equipment. I would assume the current board would  have continued on with a program for that purpose.

1. What would you look for in a new chief? (selection process will be completed after election)

A new chief would need to be a qualified and experienced person for the job and fiscally responsible and budget minded.  A chief needs to lead by example, be aware of the challenges the lake presents, have medical-services background, and be extremely organized.  Also, the right candidate would be able to work with neighboring districts we may rely on for mutual aid.

2. Are you interested in continuing the progress that has been made toward a professional fire department manned by professional firefighters?

It has always been my goal to help provide full-time protection for the district with professional firefighters.  I plan to continue to fulfil that goal for the maximum protection of the citizens and visitors of the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District.

3. Do you support efforts to increase manpower and maintain a program for ongoing replacement of equipment to improve the level of service?

I support the on-going efforts to increase manpower for maximum district coverage and 24/7 staffing of an additional fire station. I certainly support the equipment-replacement program. It is essential to maintain reliable response and safety for not only the citizens but for the fire fighters who serve them. All of this is in preparation to protect a community that continues to grow.
