Lake Regional Health System proudly announces Lake Regional Wound Healing Center has been named a Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence. The award is from Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Lake Regional Wound Healing Center achieved patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days to heal, for a minimum of two consecutive years. The prestigious honor is named for Dr. Robert A. Warriner III, a pioneer in wound care and the former chief medical officer for Healogics.

“At Lake Regional Wound Healing Center, we heal chronic wounds of patients who might otherwise experience an amputation or other life-threatening condition,” said Laurie Lowther, R.N., Lake Regional’s Wound Healing Center director. “I commend our staff on their exceptional skill and dedication, reflected in our high rate of healing success.”

Patients come to Lake Regional Wound Healing Center for highly specialized care for diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds that have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Lisa Caudle serves as the clinic nurse manager, and Lake Regional General Surgeon Justin Shatto, M.D., serves as the medical director.

“Many of our patients arrive fearful that their wound will never heal,” Dr. Shatto said. “When our treatment is successful, they are so thankful, and it’s very rewarding to see them excited to get back to life.”

One of the highly specialized treatments offered by Lake Regional Wound Healing Center is hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The hyperbaric oxygen chamber surrounds patients with 100-percent oxygen at higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure. This painless therapy increases the amount of oxygen in the patient’s blood and allows red blood cells to pass more easily into the wound, healing it from the inside out.

In addition to tissue oxygenation, Lake Regional Wound Healing Center also provides skin grafting, wound debridement, noninvasive vascular studies, specialty wound dressings and more treatments aimed at healing hard-to-heal wounds. The center is celebrating its 10th anniversary in April.
