Advances in technology and specialized care for cancer patients will be highlighted during an open house hosted by Lake Regional this week.

The free event will be held at Lake Regional Cancer Center from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tues., March 5. The open house is an opportunity for the public to learn about advances Lake Regional is making in cancer care.

From prevention and early detection to treatment and survivorship, Lake Regional Cancer Center offers a wide range of cancer care services to treat the whole person—not just the disease.

Lake Regional expanded its cancer services in 2018 by investing in technology and recruiting additional physicians and surgeons.

Lake Regional welcomed Urologist Eric McQueary, D.O., and installed the da Vinci X robotic surgery system, which Dr. McQueary uses to perform minimally invasive procedures for prostate and kidney cancers.

Lake Regional also welcomed Maggi Coplin, M.D., an oncologist whose training includes a fellowship in integrative medicine and whose career has focused largely on breast cancer.

Also in 2018, Lake Regional Imaging Center began offering 3-D mammograms for improved breast cancer screening.

Marcy Maxwell, R.N., director Lake Regional Cancer Services Director Marcy Maxwell, R.N., said Lake Regional is growing to meet the community’s needs.

“Altogether, a dozen physicians and providers will be on hand to meet our guests and share information about the services available right here at the lake,” she said. “In addition to medical oncology and radiation therapy, urology, pulmonolgy, surgery, women’s health and more will be represented.”

Attendees will learn about:

•Lung cancer screening. Lung cancer is the second most diagnosed caner at Lake Regional and early detection is key to survival.

•Breast services, including the new 3-D mammo now available at Lake Regional Imaging Center.

•Urology services, including a hands-on demonstration of da Vinci X robotic surgeries.

•Radiation therapy services. Attendees will be able to view the linear accelerator.
