An Eldon girl was found deceased and her parents were charged after officers discovered the couple used drugs and alcohol the night she went missing.

Jamie Mitchell, 31, of Eldon, and Mark Mitchell, 50, of Eldon, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree which led to the death of the child.

After responding to a call about a missing two year old girl, the father of the child, Mark, found the child under the house, according to court documents. Mark “got under the house via a crawl space access and found the child there.” Mark reportedly then “handed the child through a hole in the floor" to the officer on scene. The officer requested for medical treatment for the child. Medical pronounced the child deceased and the Miller County Coroner was requested.

Mark reportedly went to the hospital for chest pains. Officers attempted to interview both Mark and Jamie at the hospital, but they arrived after the couple left.

Mark and Jamie drove to the Eldon Police Department and talked with the Miller County Coroner and an officer, according to court documents. After agreeing to talk to the officer, Mark and Jamie were interviewed at the same time.

Mark claimed that his foot went through the floor of the bathroom, causing the hole in the floor, that night. The officer disclosed, during the interview, that Mark and Jamie reportedly used marijuana and had shots of alcohol the night before.

Mark and Jamie’s bond is $50,000 each.
