An Eldon man was found guilty in an assault that happened in 2016.
A press release from the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney’s office reports that Schaffer D. Chapman, 32, of Eldon, was found guilty by Miller County Circuit Judge Matthew Hamner of assault in the second degree on Thurs., Nov. 29, 2018 after a court-tried trial.
In October 2016, Chapman beat up David Andrew Ruiz. Chapman and Ruiz got in a fight on Ruiz’ ex-wife’s lawn. Ruiz was at his ex-wife’s house to get his belongings from her as they were divorcing. Ruiz told police that Chapman blindsided him and hit him over the head with a black club-like stick Ruiz described as a “slap stick” or “blackjack.’”
According to court documents, Ruiz suffered three jaw fractures and had several staples placed in two lacerations to the back of his head and several broken teeth.
Chapman was arrested by the Eldon Police Department on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2016. The Miller County Prosecutor’s Office filed criminal charges on Mon., Oct. 15, 2016. The court set the case for sentencing on Thurs., Feb. 14, 2019.
A Class C felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
