Jayne Brown, Lake Regional Auxiliary president, said, “Our auxiliary's purpose is to enhance the vision, mission and values of Lake Regional Health System."
The Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries named Lake Regional Health System Auxiliary a 2018 Auxiliary of the Year. Jayne Brown, Lake Regional Auxiliary president, and approximately 80 Auxiliary members accepted the award Nov. 9 at the Missouri Hospital Association’s annual convention and trade show.
“Our auxiliary’s purpose is to enhance the vision, mission and values of Lake Regional Health System,” Brown said. “Our volunteers range in age from 18 to 91, and we all are pledged to serve our patients and their families, our hospital, and our community. We encourage anyone who wants to serve our community — and develop skills and make new friends — to join us.”
The Lake Regional Health System Auxiliary earned honors as an auxiliary representing a hospital with between 101 and 300 licensed beds. The award recognizes the Auxiliary for outstanding service between June 30, 2017, and June 29, 2018. During that time, 365 Auxilians provided 47,170 hours of service.
“Volunteers support Lake Regional in countless ways, and we thank them for caring so deeply about our mission,” said Dane W. Henry, FACHE, chief executive officer of Lake Regional Health System. “Through kindness and generosity, our volunteers lift spirits and contribute to the healing work of our hospital. They remind us all of the good we can do when we focus our lives on others.”
Each volunteer participates in a variety of activities that fit their special talents and interests, from serving patients in the Cancer Center to providing comfort items to patients throughout the hospital. This past year, Lake Regional Hospital underwent major renovations, and volunteers were essential in helping patients find their way through the construction.
Along with volunteer hours, the Auxiliary donated $103,222 to the hospital, including $83,000 that helped purchase hospital equipment and $10,000 that went to nursing scholarships. To raise these funds, the Auxiliary operated a hospital gift shop; held bake sales, flower sales and other sales; organized the annual Tree of Caring celebration; and presented the Lake Regional Annual Ball.
The Auxiliary also supports various community events, including community health fairs, blood drives, the Annual HK’s Hospital Benefit Golf Tournament, local Project Graduations and more. Plus, the Auxiliary supports Lake Regional’s Junior Volunteer Program, which provides volunteer experience to high school students, and Go CAPS, a program that gives high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to experience first-hand what medical careers are like.
The Auxiliary also has supported the 2018 MAHA state project, “Know the Signs: Stroke Prevention,” by inviting experts to speak about stroke at meetings, providing stroke information at community events and donating art supplies to Lake Regional’s new Stroke Survivors Support Group.
