Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 3:00 p.m., Miller fell from a 2001 Skeeter Bass Boat. He was unable to stay afloat and drowned.
A Fenton man drowned on the main channel of Lake of the Ozarks Wednesday afternoon.
According to information from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ronald Miller, 78, of Fenton, Missouri drowned at mile marker 30.8 of Lake of the Ozarks. His death is a presumed drowning at this point as a medical complication may have been involved. Cause of death is not certain without an autopsy.
Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2018, Miller fell from the back of a 2001 Skeeter Bass Boat as the two fishermen on board went to move to another location. Larry D. Schafer, 78, of Lebanon, Missouri was the driver of the vessel.
MSHP spokesperson Sgt. Scott White confirmed that Schafer jumped in the water in an attempt to save Miller and was able to swim Miller to a nearby dock and get out of the water to seek help. Miller was wearing a Type 3 vest-style life jacket. Upon arrival of marine troopers, Miller was found floating in the water, but his head was in the water.
