Newcomers/Longtimers (N/L), the largest and oldest social organization for women in the lake area, will hold its annual kickoff and open house on September 20 from 4-6 pm at the Elks Lodge at 5161 Osage Beach Parkway in Osage Beach.

N/L is comprised of women from all over the lake area – those who are new to the lake as well as those that have been here for many years. Activities such as luncheons, cards and games, Bunco, happy hours, dining out evenings, book clubs, craft circles, movie days, Diners and Dives outings and many other special events are scheduled from September to May each season. While most activities are primarily for the ladies, there are many which are open to spouses and guests as well.

The group is not only a social organization but a charitable one as well. In addition to raising funds at monthly luncheons for selected charities, its annual Home Tour in May is their biggest undertaking, raising nearly $300,000 since its inception nearly 25 years ago. The money raised is given back to local lake charities and awarded as scholarships to students attending local colleges and technical schools.

Newcomers was started more than 50 years ago by a small group of ladies who found it challenging to meet people and make new friends after moving to the lake. It has existed ever since, growing from that small group who met once a week to play cards to its current membership of more than 250 women.

“Joining Newcomers was a life-changing experience for me after moving to the lake,” said Karen Robinson, Hospitality Chair and host of this year’s kickoff. “When my husband and I sold our business last year we had the choice of moving anywhere but chose to stay here because of the friends we made at Newcomers. It’s truly an amazing group of women.”

The kickoff is open to the public and all area ladies are welcome and encouraged to attend. “Please come see what we have to offer,” said Robinson. “We would love to meet you and introduce you to other women who may become your lifelong friends.” For more information or to RSVP please contact Karen at 573-692-3544 or by email at stlgirl@charter.net
