The Lake of the Ozarks Woodcarving Club held a cottonwood bark-carving seminar in July. It was taught by club member, Loren Woodard, of Sunrise Beach and was held at The Community of Christ Church at 42 Sunset Drive in Camdenton. Loren has taught all over the country and is an artist of The Juried Missouri Hands.
With Loren’s instruction, the students either carved a human face on their piece of bark or a whimsical house. For the human bust the students learned techniques for carving hats, beards, hair, noses, eyes, ears, mustaches, and more. For the whimsical house Loren guided the students in carving stairs, walls, roofs, windows, shingles, and more.
When asked to comment, Loren said that he was proud of our club as a whole, and that the students taking his class did a great job with their carvings.
