Two women were killed and another seriously injured in a two vehicle collision on Highway 5 south of Camdenton Wednesday morning.
Cassandra L. Reed, 22, of Lebanon, Missouri and Dolores E. Bernard, 86, of Essexville, Michigan were both pronounced dead at the scene by Medical Examiner Crystal Lloyd at 9:23 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. Cheryl D. Dewald, 57, of Caro, Michigan was transported by ambulance with serious injuries to Lake Regional Hospital.
The crash occurred shortly before 9 a.m. July 18, 2018 on South Missouri 5 north of Dry Hollow Road.
The report states that Reed was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox north when she lost control of the SUV and it crossed the center of the roadway striking a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox head on. The driver of the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox was Dewald and Bernard was a passenger in the 2017 SUV.
This was MSHP Troop F region’s seventh and eighth fatalities in July and its 37th and 38th in 2018.
The report indicated that Reed was not wearing a seatbelt and Dewald and Bernard were.
Heavy rains were occurring in the area at the time of the crash. It was not stated in this preliminary report whether that was a factor in the crash.
A Major Crash Investigation unit investigated the collision.
