A nurse has been charged for stealing fentanyl from a Laurie nursing home.
The Laurie Police Department investigated the theft reported by Laurie Care Center June 16 and arrested Kasey Sawyers of Lake Ozark over the weekend. Sawyers is a licensed practical nurse who is formerly of Humboldt, Tennessee.
Laurie police officers were contacted Saturday by the administration of the nursing home, according to a press release from the LPD. Staff told police that they believed a patient’s fentanyl had been taken by a former employee. They had contacted the former employee who had allegedly admitted to taking the medication for personal use.
The former employee was identified as Sawyers.
Making contact with her, officers recovered an empty Fentanyl package with the patient’s name on it. Sawyers allegedly admitted to taking it.
She was arrested and booked into the Morgan County Adult Detention Center where she was charged by the Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with one count of stealing a controlled substance. Bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.
