The Northwest Fire Protection District will be holding a series of public meetings to inform the public about two tax levies that have been proposed for the April 3, 2018 election. Meetings are scheduled at five different locations across the District at varying times to attempt to accommodate patrons’ needs for information and convenience. Since the establishment of the District in 1992, there have been no increases during a period of high inflation in nearly every segment of the economy. NWFPD currently has the lowest rate in our 8 district area.
Levy 1 is a 23 cent increase to fund on-going expenses related to running the District, maintaining vehicles and equipment, and training the cohort of firefighters and paramedics in their specialized, lifesaving tasks.
Levy 2 is a 37 cent increase earmarked to replace worn-out trucks and equipment and to add bays to three firehouses to accommodate the equipment necessary to provide protection and to lower our ISO rating, thereby lowering insurance rates.
The Board has exercised great frugality as stewards of the District’s funds, basically eliminating debt, opting to purchase older vehicles and “skinnying by” with marginal equipment which is prohibitively expensive to keep operational. This has been our effort and will continue to be our directing commitment in our goal to bring protection services in our community into the 21st century.
