On May 9, Lake Regional Health System presented five Beacon Awards to employees who represent the Lake Regional values of commitment to community, patient-centered care, service excellence, clinical excellence and integrity. The recipients — David Bergthold, ACNP; Stephanie Dehner; Sandy Denny; Kristen Eblen, PharmD; and Marla Fritz — were recognized at a reception held during National Hospital Week. Beacon Award recipients are nominated anonymously by their peers.
David Bergthold, ACNP, winner of the Beacon of Commitment to Community, serves as a hospitalist. He was commended for exhibiting a strong sense of duty and accountability to the public. Bergthold is from Camdenton.
Several nominators noted Bergthold’s service to the Camden County SWAT Team. Bergthold attends monthly trainings to provide both medical and tactical support, and he takes calls for the SWAT Team 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. One nominator wrote: “David has on multiple occasions put himself in harm’s way to have emergency medical care available in hostile situations for the Camden County SWAT Team.”
Stephanie Dehner, winner of the Beacon of Patient-Centered Care, is a patient account representative in Patient Financial Services. She was commended for striving to meet and exceed Lake Regional’s patients’ requirements, ensuring their safety and always seeking what is best for Lake Regional’s patients. Dehner is from Osage Beach.
In sharing how Dehner always puts the patient first, one nominating peer wrote: “Right before lunch, the waiting room filled in Patient Access Registration. Stephanie jumped in and helped get the patients processed quickly. No one had to wait. She is a great co-worker and really cares about the patients.”
Sandy Denny, winner of the Beacon of Service Excellence, serves as a patient care technician in the Emergency Department. She was commended for committing to provide excellent service to each person Lake Regional serves while building healthy relationships with each other and Lake Regional guests. Denny is from Camdenton.
“Sandy makes positive first impressions a priority,” a nominating peer wrote. “She smiles, encourages others and her compassionate care is evident. She is always asking patients, ‘What else can I do to make you more comfortable?’”
Kristen Eblen, PharmD, winner of the Beacon of Clinical Excellence, is a hospital pharmacist. She was commended for providing health care that is evidence-based, resulting in quality outcomes. Eblen is from Linn Creek.
Examples of Eblen’s clinical excellence include her continuous efforts to improve pain control, her work establishing an antimicrobial stewardship program and her service on the Patient Experience iCare Team. “Kristen is always looking for ways to improve workflow and customer service,” one nominating peer said. “She is a true role model.”
Marla Fritz, winner of the Beacon of Integrity, is a health unit coordinator for the Pain Clinic. She was commended for being honest, truthful and ethical in relationships and business activities. Fritz is from Camdenton.
“Marla approaches her work with integrity, professionalism and kindness,” a nominating peer wrote. “She consistently has a can-do, will-do attitude. She wears a smile when greeting everyone, in person and over the phone.”
