Three people — two of them young children — were killed in a two-vehicle accident about 5:12 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, on westbound Highway 54 about 1,900 feet east of Ball Park Road in Camden County.

Three people — two of them young children — were killed in a two-vehicle accident about 5:12 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, on westbound Highway 54 about 1,900 feet east of Ball Park Road in Camden County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that killed were Miley Howard, 7, of Macks Creek; Hailey M. Loyd, 5, of Macks Creek; and Robert J. Kroll, 35, of Tunas, the driver of the vehicle and the stepfather of the deceased children.

The body of Miley Howard was taken to Hedge-Scott Funeral Home in Camdenton; Hailey Loyd was taken by Staff for Life to Mercy Hospital in Springfield where she died; Robert Kroll’s body was taken to Hedge-Scott Funeral Home.

Moderately injured in the accident was Dennis D. Lewsader, 58, driver of the other vehicle involved. He was taken to Lake Regional Hospital by EMS.

The accident occurred when the 1993 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Kroll crossed the centerline and traveled head-on into the path of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Lewsader.

Kroll and Howard were pronounced dead at the scene by Camden County Medical Examiner Stephanie Dominique about 6:07 p.m.; Loyd was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Springfield at 10:21 p.m. by Dr. Samina Hijab.

Miley Howard and Hailey Loyd were  wearing their seatbelts, and Kroll was not.

These were fatalities five, six and seven for October in Troop F and Nos. 53, 54 and 55 for the year.
