Secretary of State Jason Kander was named co-chair of the national Voter Participation Committee for the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). He will co-chair the committee with Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, Jr.

“As Missouri’s chief elections official, increasing voter participation and access has been a priority of mine since day one,” Kander said. “I’m honored to accept this position, and I look forward to working with my co-chair and members of the committee as we seek ways to incre ase voter participation nationwide.”

In his capacity as co-chair, Kander will facilitate discussions among the committee’s 38 members on ways to improve voter participation throughout the country, as well as fostering information-sharing between states on innovative practices for voter education and outreach as a means to increase participation. Past efforts include the New Millennium Young Voters Project and the associations’ nonpartisan voting assistance website, www.CanIVote.org

NASS is the nation’s oldest, nonpartisan professional organization for public officials. Members include the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
