News to know
A naked man who was shot by a police officer in Miami after he wouldn’t stop eating another person’s face was probably high on “bath salts,” officials said. Bath salts are a drug that “causes them to go completely insane and become very violent," said Fraternal Order of Police President Armando Aguilar. The drugs also elevate body temperature, which is why many users take off their clothes. Aguilar said the officer shot the man because "when the officer approached him, told him to stop, pointed a gun at him, he turned around and growled like a wild animal and kept eating at the man's face."
Quote of note
"What is clear is government forces were involved. They were shelling, using tanks and artillery. And it appears to be Shabiha militia (a government group), entering houses and slaughtering people in what is really an abominable crime that took place throughout the day on Friday." – U.N. human rights spokesman Rupert Colville, talking about the decision Tuesday of eight nations to expel Syrian diplomats from their countries. The Syrian government is accused of numerous human rights violations, the latest coming Monday after a slaughter of more than 100 people in the town of Houla. About half of the victims were children.
