The fight for Highway 5 came down to the final seconds in a rivalry series that continues to thrill. Lebanon earned its fourth consecutive gridiron win over Camdenton in thrilling 17-14 fashion thanks to well-timed home run plays and shutout defense for three quarters.

Camdenton had a chance for a fourth quarter drive when it took possession at its own 15-yard line with 4:30 remaining in the game. The Lakers' drive ended inside the Lebanon 10-yard line as time expired.

"I couldn't be prouder of them. We're disappointed to lose, we definitely are, but they laid it all out there. It's just what I said they'd do and they'll keep coming. They'll keep coming," Camdenton coach Jeff Shore said.

The Lakers have lost to Lebanon in four straight meetings with just 10 points separating the Camdenton and the Yellowjackets over the four-year period.

On 3rd down and 27 from Laker territory, junior quarterback Cory Simpson rolled right and threw across his body to find senior wideout Austin Martin for a 26-yard gain that set up a successful 4th down conversion to keep a potential game-winning drive alive.

Simpson finished 12-for-20 passing for 99 yards and an interception. He was 10-for-15 in the second half.

"(Simpson) did a great job. They ran the two-minute offense well," Shore said. "You can see how he's going to keep going, keep maturing and get some more experience under his belt. We've got a lot to look forward to."

The Lakers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. A pass interception at the Lebanon 35-yard line set up a 20-yard touchdown run down the left sideline by Camdenton junior running back Justin Bernabe. A three-and-out and a short Lebanon punt led to a second 35-yard drive ending a 2-yard touchdown plunge for Lakers' tailback Murphy Ward.

Lebanon held the normally explosive Ward to 36 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Ward's Lebanon counterpart Brock West rushed for 178 yards on 26 carries. West had an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage of the second half that put Lebanon ahead. The two teams went scoreless for the remaining 23:45 of play. West scored Lebanon's first touchdown of a 75-yard play where quarterback Hayden Brackett found receiver Jordan McGinnis on a short slant to the right side. McGinnis pitched the ball back to West who ran 75 yards down the right sideline to score on the trick play.

Lebanon linebacker Shawn Dalangin recorded three sacks in the Yellowjackets' win.

Camdenton falls to 1-2 on the season. The Lakers are on the road again next week to take on blue chip recruit Dorial Green-Beckham and the Hillcrest Hornets.

"We're looking forward to the rest of the season," Shore said. "Hang with us, we're going to be alright."
