Ex-Laker Simpson to play baseball at Missouri Western State

A former Camdenton Laker will continue his baseball career at the NCAA D-II level. Missouri Western State University announced that Kyle Simpson will transfer to play his junior and senior years with the Griffons.

Simpson played two years of junior college baseball for Metropolitan Community College-Longview in Kansas City. As a Longview Laker, Simpson was an all-region and all-district catcher and third baseman. As a freshman at Longview he hit .424 with six home runs while as a sophomore he hit .309 with two home runs.

At Camdenton High School, Simpson earned all-Ozark Conference and all-district honors as a shortstop and pitcher under coach Harv Antle.

He was also a standout football quarterback and scored 1,000 points in his high school basketball career. The 2009 CHS graduate plans to pursue a finance degree at Western.

"Kyle Simpson is a solid corner player from Longview CC that will add a lot of power and consistency to our line up," Missouri Western baseball coach Charles Verduzco said. "He is a great addition to our squad."

Missouri Western is an NCAA Division II member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and is located in St. Joseph, Mo. The Griffons posted a 26-25 win/loss record this spring.
