Climax Springs remains the only lake area school still playing after Tuesday’s first round of boys’ district action in Class 1-3. Versailles and School of the Osage both lost.

Climax Springs, the No. 3 seed in the Class 1 District 5 boys’ tournament, beat No. 6 seed Macks Creek 65-41 on Tuesday.

Cougars junior guard Dillion Danforth scored a game-high 28 points while sophomore point guard Michael Buerge added 13 points, six assists and four steals. Six players had between four and five rebounds for Climax Springs.

The Cougars advance to play in tonight’s 7:30 semifinal matchup against Fair Play at Bolivar High School. Fair Play, the No. 2 seed, trounced Humansville 98-47 and is ranked No. 7 in the latest state poll.

The Climax Springs girls’ basketball team is in the semifinals of their district, and face Dadeville tonight at 7:30 in Bolivar.

In Class 3 District 8 boys’ competition, the No. 3 seed Eugene Eagles took care of No. 6 seed Versailles, winning 62-40. Osage lost 68-51 to Southern Boone County.
