The Camdenton Lady Lakers asserted themselves early in a monumental 7-1 hammering of Lebanon that clinched the first 20-win girls' soccer season in Camdenton High School history.

Playing in the Class 3, District 10 semifinals, Camdenton scored three goals in the first 30 minutes of the Tuesday afternoon game and added four goals in the second half.

Sophomore striker Miriam Taylor scored twice, which gives her 23 goals in 22 games played. Senior Ashleigh Paschel scored what would be the game-winner in the 19th minute of the match when she fired a low shot to the left of the Lebanon goalkeeper that found the net from 16 yards away. The goal was Paschel's 10th of the season.

The Lady Lakers suffered a scare when senior goalkeeper Sandra Shore aggravated a pre-existing injury to one of her shins. CHS coach J.D. Hunter pulled Shore and put backup Jessica Colliver into the game in the 30th minute.

"We didn't know but Sandy got a huge bruise on her shin against Parkview, and in one of the subsequent games a cleat came in and nicked it," Hunter said. "It's all kinds of swolen and nasty... just nasty."

Lebanon took advantage of Colliver's lack of warmup time four minutes after she entered the game. Lebanon forward Abbi Zimmerman slipped down the right wing on a counterattack and scored a breakaway goal that Colliver had little chance to stop.

Camdenton took a 3-1 lead into halftime and regrouped.

"We just tried to be patient, stay with our game plan, and just keep (Lebanon) pinned down," Hunter said. "Their counter game is their bread and butter."

Cassie Hale helped re-establish the Lady Lakers' attack with a goal four minutes after the second half began. Hale collected a loose ball that resulted from Taylor's shot on a fastbreak that hit the Lebanon crossbar. Hale scored from 15 yards out.

Shore started the second half in goal, but Hunter opted to pull her again in the 58th minute, again putting Colliver between the pipes. Colliver made three saves in the final 12 minutes of the match.

After the historic win, Hunter kept his team in the stands at the high school athletic complex to watch the district semifinal between Waynesville and Rolla — in order to scout for the district championship game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
