Eldon loses heartbreaker in districts, Macks Creek advances to district semifinals and Versailles falls in first round of districts

Eldon season ends with a heartbreaker

Eldon took on Fulton in the first round of the Class 3 District 8 Tournament at Southern Boone Wednesday night and lost 4-3 to the Hornets in heartbreak walk-off fashion.

Eldon opened up the night with an early 1-0 lead after the first inning and extended it to 3-0 after the third. Fulton answered back with a single tally in the fourth and poured on three runs in the seventh to win it.

The rally started with an RBI on a fielder’s choice and with only an out remaining, Fulton hit a fly ball to right field that dropped and allowed the final two runs to score.

Eldon racked up eight hits on the night and Kayleigh Fike led the way with three of them. Madison VanHooser added two hits and two RBIs, Elizabeth Rush finished with two hits and an RBI and Daija Rudolph provided the other hit of the night.

In the circle, Madison VanHooser took the loss aftergoing all six innings for the Mustangs allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out four and walking two. Eldon was also plagued by three total errors.

Eldon’s season comes to an end at 6-21.

Macks Creek advances to district semifinals in win over Newburg

Macks Creek and Newburg met on the softball diamond on Wednesday night for first-round action of the Class 1 District 2 Tournament in Richland. The Lady Pirates came away with a 17-2 victory in four innings over the Lady Wolves.

Macks Creek opened up a 4-0 lead after the first inning and saw the advantage cut to two runs by the top of the third. Then, the Lady Pirates added five more runs in their half of the third and tallied on eight more runs in the fourth to seal it.

"Offensively we came out swinging tonight," Macks Creek coach Jason Trusty said. “The girls had to make a couple of adjustments at the start, but we did a nice job of executing at the plate and putting some runs on the board."

A total of five Lady Pirates had multiple hits on the night. They were led by Jesse Willis fell a home run short of the cycle with a single, double and triple to go along with two runs scored and five RBIs.

Bethany Schmidt improved to 4-5 in the circle with her four innings of work. She allowed two runs on three hits while striking out one, walking two, and hitting one batter.

The fourth-seeded Lady Pirates improved to 10-13 overall and were scheduled to visit top-seeded Crocker in the semifinals on Thursday. Should the Pirates have advanced, they will face the winner of the Stoutland and Richland game for the district title on Friday at 5 p.m.

Versailles falls to California in first round of districts

Versailles opened up the postseason in the Class 2 District 10 Tournament in Knob Noster Wednesday night and fell to California 2-1. The Tigers end the season at 5-20.
