Camdenton welcomed Helias Catholic to its home pitch for the season-opener on Monday night and the visiting Crusaders came away with a 3-1 win over the Lakers.
Helias picked up two goals via penalty kicks and the third goal with an errant play by the defense. Meanwhile, Camdenton’s Josh Gerdiman scored the first goal of the season for the Lakers on an assist from Abi Rodiquez.
“We played extremely well. They had no running-play goals which was good to see,” Camdenton coach Chris Byington said. “We were disciplined and mentally tough throughout the whole game, which was our plan.
“I am proud of the boys and how they played,” the coach added. “This is a special group and I believe that they are starting to grasp how special this season can be.”
Camdenton (0-1) was scheduled to host Marshfield Tuesday night and will be on the road at Fatima on Thursday with kickoff at 5 p.m.
