Camdenton's Amber Wilson finishes 2nd amongst field of 20
Golfers representing the Lake area tested their talents with golfers from across the state in the Missouri Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship from June 11 to 14 at Gustin Golf Course in Columbia.
Camdenton’s Amber Wilson, Osage Beach’s Jennah Schell and Eldon’s Kassidy Hull took on a field of 20 in the women’s tournament while Eldon’s Aidan Wells and Lake Ozark’s Jacob Krantz went to battle in a total field of 36 on the men’s side.
The first day of action featured stroke play where every golfer played a round of 18 holes to determine seeding for match play. All 20 female golfers advanced to a tournament reserved for the top 32 and both Wells and Krantz made the cut as well.
On the second day, the stakes were a little higher as golfers faced elimination in match play. After seeding was determined, golfers were paired with their respective first-round opponents trying to win more holes than their counterpart to advance.
Wilson had the best run of the Lake area golfers as the No. 2 seed advanced all the way to the finals before being defeated 7 and 5 (lost by seven holes with five holes left to play). No. 9 Hull and No. 15 Schell both made it to the round of 16. Meanwhile, No. 20 Wells and No. 32 Krantz both faced tough first-round exits.
